SISTER
PAULETTE, APOSTOLIC SISTER
Good deeds are this nun’s habit
(The following is from a newspaper clip on Sr. Paulette
LoMonaco when she received the New York Post’s Leadership
Liberty Medal).
“As
a young sister of the Good Shepherd in 1969, Sister Paulette
LoMonaco joined the family-oriented Good Shepherd Services
to set up a home for young women who’d been abused
or neglected by their families. It was a residential program,
which was innovative at the time. Thirty-three years later,
Sister Paulette is the Director of Good Shepherd Services,
a Manhattan-based non-profit organization that runs two-dozen
programs that directly affect about 10,000 at-risk children
and their families, ranging from foster-care prevention
projects to domestic violence education classes. The residential
program for young women is in its fourth decade and still
thriving. Good Shepherd Services help keep poor families
together and gives them options.
‘Sister
Paulette is a Catholic nun but she could easily be the
CEO of a large corporation,” said Chuck Dohrenwend,
a volunteer at Good Shepherd Services, who nominated her
for the New York Post’s Leadership Liberty Medal.
“Instead, she chooses to be with the kids and they
love her." |
